The Rip Curl Mens Flashbomb Hidden Split Toe 3mm Bootie is a market-leading cold water surf boot designed for even the briskest of mornings and are arguably more important than a hood! The internals are fully lined with Flash lining, the driest and warmest lining in the Rip Curl range. Externally the boot is fully taped, for durability and seal, affixed with a single ankle fastener and an 8mm sole - ample board feed and durability. The presence of an internal split toe gives you the benefits of a split toe, read below, without looking like a toe-shoed marathon walker.
The notion of 'you lose most heat through your heard' is not quite true, especially in people with hair- as hair traps air which is the same insulative principle as the wetsuit itself [because a wetty is actually , yes, a sponge..]. The combination of ankle and leg fastening Velcro and the split toe design ensure a snug fit and minimal movement within the boot or foot shift.
The issue with 'foot-shift is that, let's say, you're turning hard and there's plenty of lateral pressure through your feet but because of the wax your boot doesn't shift but if there's spare room in the boot your foot can slip and in doing so send you off balance. That's why it's important to have adjustable ankles, an anchor strap running over the top of your foot and a split toe.
Most people look at a split toe boot and are overwhelmed by a horde of toe-shoe wearing wave hogs but it is the most beneficial features of any surf boot. Its function is to limit the aforementioned slip because your toes are anchored, not free to shift sideways, therefore increasing the overall stability of the boot.
